Jack Charlton (1984-85)
BIG Jack never played for his boyhood heroes, but got the chance to come home in 1984 when Arthur Cox quit after guiding Newcastle to the top-flight.
Jack had had success with Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough, but struggled during his time at the helm at Newcastle.
After Chris Waddle left he came under pressure, and even though the Magpies consolidated theirplace in the First Division he was never one of the club's most popular bosses.
Many fans criticised his robust style of play and tactics, and when they made their feelings known at a pre-season friendly against Sheffield United in 1985, jack walked out.
He later enjoyed remarkable success with the Republic of Ireland, and is still a regular at Newcastle matches.
