ARTHUR was hardly a household name when he took over at United in 1980, but two years into his spell at St. James' the signing of Kevin Keegan changed all that.

Cox had steadily worked hard at Newcastle when he replaced Bill McGarry, and the capture of Keegan was a masterstroke.

Cox assembled on the most attractive attacking line-ups in Newcastle's history when he threw Peter Beardsley and Chris Waddle alongside Keegan, and the full house signs were up every week as United gained promotion.

Cox caused a sensation before the start of United's first season back at the top, and quit after a disagreement with the board over the length of his contract.
