LIVINGSTONE led Belgium through the 1954 World Cup having ended a playing career which saw him turn out for Celtic, Everton and Tranmere.

His modern style of management didn't go down too well in the boardroom, though there were few complaints when his first season in charge ended at Wembley in the 1955 FA Cup Final.

The board wanted to have a say in picking the team, and famously got his line-up changed for the FA Cup Final when he decided that Jackie Milburn was not playing.

He never wrestled power from the board, and after a brief spell in charge of the juniors he eventually left for Fulham.
