CUNNINGHAM was a legend in the Scottish game having scored a boatload of goals for Rangers, and became the oldest player to make his debut in the English league when he joined United at the age of 38.
He started off as player/manager - United had always operated with a committee before he arrived - then went on to become full-time manager after hanging up his boots.
Andy tasted the highs of FA Cup success with United, but also the lows of relegation to the Second Division, and eventually left St. James' Park in 1935.
