Cup Of Cheer for NUWFC
NUWFC's Third Round win over FA cup opponents Huddersfield Town proved to be a double success.
Not only did the Magpies' progress into the Fourth Round to earn a home tie against Northampton Town, but the triumph also ensured that the club's mini-soccer section would benefit from the Football Association's £500 prize fund, awarded to all winning teams in Round Three.
NUWFC Head coach Rob Atkin said: "We are fortunate to have a fantastic youth development programme at our club, with most of those first team players who faced Huddersfield being the evidence of how important it is that we continue to develop our own players, and what better way for the first team to support the future stars than making this gesture?"
The club has mini-soccer squads at under 10s, 12s and 13s who represent the Magpies in the Northumberland Girls League every Saturday morning. This financial support will ensure every player will receive their own Newcastle United shirt with their very own specific squad number, just like the men's and women's first team squads.
Rob added: "When I first mentioned to my players, prior to the kick off against Huddersfield that we should donate the prize fund to our juniors, they all thought it was an excellent way of letting the youngsters know that they are a big part of the future. And I know that the win was made even sweeter by the player's reaction to helping out the junior members."
