NUWFC's first team are looking good to retain their FAWPL status in their first season, after falling one step away from a first ever Women`s FA Cup final in the most heartbreaking way, while the Reserves are sitting proudly at the top of the league and certain of promotion.

The Development squad are also favourites to be promoted into the next level of the pyramid system, with some very good under 21 players improving by the week.

NUWFC also boast a fantastic junior set up up at under 10s, 12s, 13s and 14s that is leading the way in Northumberland, most of these players showing the potential to make it into the first team squad in the near future.

The roots of a comprehensive Club development plan that was put in place over five years ago are now starting to shoot through.

NUWFC Head Coach Rob Atkin reflecting on recent developments said: "I have always known that any long term plan needs at least ten years to come to fruition, having worked in Centres of Excellence and Academies we have seen young lads progress from under 10s to become established in the FA Premier League.

"I believe the main element in the process of youth development is time, and in my time working with Newcastle Womens football club the progress we have made has been breathtaking at times.

"Following the three postponed games last Sunday, we had 40 players attend the imdoor training sessions, and these were all good players, including a lot of our under 21 squad who trained with the first team squad for the very first time, they may have been nervous but they also showed me they are more than capable of making the next step up in the coming months."
