Fun In The Sun For Junior Footballers
THE seventh NUWFC Girls Football Funday took place today at the Lightfoot centre in Walker in conjunction with Walker Central FC.
FA coaches from the Newcastle United Women's First and Reserve teams worked with girls aged 8 to 14 to help improve their skills on the pitch by introducing various techniques and playing small sided games with the youngsters.
The Funday is in conjunction with with the City councils "Year of Exercise and Sport" YES 2006 initiative and was free to all participants.
Rob Atkin Football development officer for Newcastle City council "The exposure in the local and National press around the YES 2006 programme has given lots of impetus to events such as the Walker Central FC Funday, we are expected another good turnout and we were not disapointed with ove 60 players attending.
We look forward to working closely with Walker Central FC and the Lightfoot centre in giving local female players future opportunities to reach the highest level of competition".
