CHARLES N'Zogbia's eyecatching form last season saw him deservedly crowned as Young Player of the Year at the 2006 Princes Trust North East Football Awards.

The French starlet went from strength to strength last term in a left-sided midfield role for the Magpies, and his superb solo goal in the 4-1 Easter Monday derby hammering of Sunderland at the Stadium of Light will be one that fans replay time and time again down the years.

Speaking after receiving his award, Charles said: "I am very happy to win this award.

"I enjoyed last season and I am hoping I can have another good year with Newcastle United this time.

"We all hope to have a good season at the club and hopefully we will be able to win something."

Charles wasn't the only Newcastle United award winner at the ceremony. Shay Given took the Player of the Year and Save of the Season awards, collected by Glenn Roeder and Steve Harper in his absence.

And there was also a special Princes Trust Recognition Award for the great Alan Shearer, the Magpies' talismanic leader who retired in May having set a new goalscoring record of 206 strikes for the club.

Will Charles celebrate his award in style with a UEFA Cup goal against Levadia Tallinn on Thursday night? Be there to find out - click below to buy tickets online now!
