NEWCASTLE centre-forward Ryan Donaldson was sent off for swearing at female referee Sarah Garratt as United Under-18s slipped to their fifth defeat in six games.
The match was goalless five minutes into the second half when England Youth international Donaldson appeared to be fouled then stamped on by an opponent, but when the official took no action the Magpies striker reacted angrily with a verbal torrent and was immediately shown the red card.
United had been slightly the better side up to then, but Wolves promptly scored twice in three minutes to establish a winning lead.
Kyle Bennett shot across Mark Cook for the opener after 55 minutes, and three minutes later Ijaha rifled a brilliant 19-yard shot high into the left corner of the net.
Kenny Wharton sent on midfielder Mark Doninger for striker Kieran Wrightson, moving Frank Danquah and Jonny Godsmark up front, and Danquah pulled one goal back on 65 minutes, finishing with a powerful 12-yard left-foot shot after Doninger headed down a James Marwood free-kick.
Even though a man down, United were more than holding their own and Wolves keeper William Lumley had to go full-length to his right to turn behind a Godsmark drive.
However, United were unable to find an equaliser and Cook made two good late saves from long-range efforts by Ijaha and David Davis before Marwood was booked for a foul with three minutes remaining.
