NEWCASTLE United Juniors suffered the agony of an injury-time loser as they were unable to find their first win of the season at Leeds United.

Goalkeeper Mark Cook limped off after just 15 minutes and was replaced by new signing Max Johnson as he thrown on for his Magpies bow.

But Johnson was picking the ball out of the net on the half hour mark as Nathan Carthan fired home for the hosts.

And Leeds doubled that advantage six minutes after half-time, striker Tom Elliott slotting past Johnson after being one-on-one with the Toon stopper.

James Marwood halved the deficit with a beautiful free-kick effort on 70 minutes, and the young winger turned provider 12 minutes later slotting in Dan Leadbitter for the Magpies leveller from close range.

Debutant Johnson was then injured in a collision with Elliott and had to soldier on with the black and whites having used all three of their substitutes.

And there was to be late heartache for Kenny Wharton's side as Johnson's punch clear landed kindly for sub Oliver Hotchkiss and he fired through a crowd of bodies to condemn the Geordies to their seventh successive defeat.
