RYAN Donaldson was the Magpies hero as his treble helped United kick-off the New Year with an emphatic 5-1 win at Huddersfield.

The 16-year-old scored all of his goals in the second-half with the Geordies having went in at the break leading thanks to Jonny Godsmark's 12-yard finish after being found in the area by Patrick McLaughlin.

Dutch striker Frank Wiafe Danquah (63) made it two with a first-time shot from the edge of the area after being teed-up by strike partner Donaldson.

However, that advantage was halved just six minutes later when Jackson headed home Pickering's corner from close range.

With thirteen minutes left on the clock Donaldson got his first of the afternoon, cleverly lifting the ball over Terriers keeper Eastham after a pass from Danquah.

Mark Doninger and Matthew Grieve both saw efforts cannon off the crossbar before Donaldson got his second with a curling strike on 87 minutes.

The England youth international was then denied a hat-trick by a linesman's flag before eventually netting his third right on the stroke of 90 minutes as he darted into the area and cooly slotted past Eastham.
