GEORDIE striker Andy Carroll bagged a brace to make it six goals from five games as United's reserves got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Everton at St.James' Park.
The 19-year-old was outstanding throughout and got his just reward with a late double in front of watching boss Kevin Keegan.
The hosts were already leading following a John Irvine own goal when Big Andy got his first with just five minutes left on the clock.
Jonny Godsmark crossed from the right and when the ball fell to the 6ft 4ins frontman he showed no hesitation in lashing high into the roof of the net from 12 yards out.
And the Gateshead-born star sealed victory in the dying seconds, this time climbing highest amid a sea of bodies inside the area to head home a Mark Doninger corner via the underside of the crossbar.
It was Doninger, who also had a hand in Carroll's first, who came close to breaking the deadlock during the first-half when his 20-yard free-kick skimmed the foot of Iain Turner's post on 16 minutes.
Fraser Forster has been in fantastic form for the second-string so far this term and the Hexham-born stopper was again at his best moments later as he pulled off an instinctive near post save from Aiden Downes' flick.
Wesley Ngo Baheng then went close to netting his first in black and white, the French youngster skipping away from two Everton challenges before drilling inches wide from the edge of the area.
And Doninger was unlucky not to register his sixth of the season when Turner spilled a 20-yard volley onto the roof of the net via the top of the crossbar.
The Magpies were quick out of the blocks after the break and within five minutes of the restart Turner had denied both Jonny Godsmark and Doninger when one-on-one with the Scottish stopper.
Forster then palmed around the post from a stinging Ryan Harpur free-kick before the hosts found that much-coveted opener on 67 minutes.
Everton could only half clear a right-wing corner, and when James Troisi's return ball was headed goalwards by Ben Tozer it found its way into the net via the palms of Turner and the thigh of Irving with the full-back credited with the own goal.
Carroll was unlucky not to net before his late double when Irving cleared from the line after the striker had seized upon Anthony Gardner's weak backpass before chipping the stranded Turner.
Italian teenager Fabio Zamblera made his United debut as a second-half substitute, and the former Atalanta starlet could have made it a goalscoring bow had Turner not kept out his close range stab after 87 minutes.
