Craig Hope reports from Christie Park ...

TEENAGE strike pairing Wesley Ngo Baheng and Andy Carroll were among the goals as United's second-string battled back from a goal down to win 3-1 at the Christie Park home of League Two Morecambe.

The victory means Adam Sadler's side have now lost just one of their last eight outings and climb above Rovers and into fifth position in the Premier Reserve table.

But the visitors made a sluggish start and it was Blackburn's Irish forward Alan Judge (16) who was left with the simplest of tasks in finishing from close range after Maceo Rigters had intercepted Carroll's deflected back pass.

The Magpies rallied and were soon on level terms when Wesley Ngo Baheng (23) bagged his second in as many games, the French star firing low beyond keeper Gunnar Nielsen from just inside the area after pouncing upon a long punt downfield.

United were beginning to find their rhythm and a neat move involving Baheng, Jonny Godsmark and David Edgar ended with Nielsen palming over from Carroll's bullet header.

The England under-19 star was clearly in the mood and saw another header flash wide before eventually getting his goal on 37 minutes, climbing highest from a Mark Doninger flag-kick to power home from 12 yards.

That strike made it seven from six games for the Gateshead-born youngster and would have done no harm in strengthening his claims for a first-team call.

Newcastle emerged the stronger of the two sides after the interval and Canadian skipper Edgar was unlucky not to net after a 20-yard strike was deflected wide following a surging run from deep.

Baheng could have had a second when his curling effort narrowly evaded the angle of the target before Godsmark completed the scoring four minutes from time.

Italian substitute Fabio Zamblera crossed from left and the Guide Post-born speed demon darted in front of Kris Patterson before firing left-footed into the bottom corner from eight yards out - a fantastic finish to round-off a top class performance from Sadler's young charges.
