NEWCASTLE United reserves struck twice in injury-time to snatch a dramatic point against Bolton Wanderers.

Trailing 2-0 at the Lancashire FA Headquarters in Leyland, Shola Ameobi started an unlikely fightback for Adam Sadler's team when he headed home from Mark Doninger's free-kick.

It looked to be no more than a consolation, but with virtually the last kick of the three minutes' added time, sub Wesley Ngo Baheng capitalised on a defensive slip and showed great composure to slot past Adam Bogdan in the home goal to earn the Magpies' second string a share of the points.

The game had looked lost when Bolton went 2-0 ahead with just 11 minutes remaining as Leslie Thompson fired in a close range rebound after Nathan Woolfe had struck a post from Johann Smith's left-wing cross.

That goal doubled Wanderers' advantage after they broke the deadlock three minutes before the break when David Gbemie rifled home as United were unable to clear a left-wing corner.

Ameobi had seen a fifth-minute effort chalked off for a foul on Gbemie, while strike partner Andy Carroll shot wide twice from promising positions in the early exchanges.

Kevin Keegan, Terry McDermott and Chris Hughton were among the interested onlookers at a game that also saw Senegalese defender Lamine Diatta make his competitive bow for the Magpies, after signing until the end of the season.

He was partnered at the back by Peter Ramage, who played 65 minutes on his comeback game after a long absence with a serious knee injury.
