THE Times reports that the Magpies could face competition from Arsenal for French striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
In a follow-up to yesterday's story which first appeared in the Evening Chronicle, they say that United have lodged a £10m bid for the 22-year-old who appeared as a substitute during France's disappointing goalless draw in their opening game of Euro 2008 against Romania on Monday.
The St-Etienne star is said to be a long-term target for Newcastle although Arsene Wenger could make a move if Emmanuel Adebayor leaves the Emirates Stadium this summer.
That is a line which also appears in the Daily Star with Adebayor being courted by both Barcelona and AC Milan.
