NEWCASTLE UNITED keeper Shay Given was left thoroughly dejected following Sunday's five nil defeat at Stamford Bridge.

The Magpies number one expressed his disappointment at  the afternoon's turn of events:" We didn't play well ar all today and when you go down to ten men it is always going to be a struggle.

"It is hard enough as it is playing here, but when you are playing with a man short against one of the best sets of players in Europe, it is even harder.

"I don't think it was a foul at all and if it was, it was outside the box anyway so it certainly wasn't a penalty. The ball was on it's way through to me anyway.

They (Chelsea) are definitely title contenders and a top side, but it would have been nice to play eleven versus eleven. Losing Alan Shearer before the game with sickness was a big enough loss as it was so it's a disappointing day all-round."
