SHAY Given insists United will prove they have learned from their mistakes when they go into Thursday night's UEFA Cup tie with FC Basel.
United's 3-2 win in the St Jakob Stadium has left The Magpies with one foot in the third round, but after the disappointment of the Champions League exit against Partizan Belgrade still fresh in the memory the Irishman says the players will take nothing for granted.
"Basel are a tough team to play against, they caused us a few problems over there and even though we got a fantastic result in Switzerland we have to finish the job off," said Given.
"we have to learn from our mistakes, and no-one needs to remind us about what happened against Partizan Belgrade. We had a great result out there in that away leg, but we failed to finish the job off at home.
"We'll forget about the 3-2 win for the 90 minutes on Thursday and set about beating them and finsihing the job off because the most important thing for us is booking our place in the next round."
