Shearer On Shearer's: It's Best Bar None!
SHEARER'S Bar is celebrating winning a prestigious award - and the man himself was more than happy to receive it!
Big Al dropped into the bar to pick up the Best Bar None award won by the bar at St. James' Park named after Newcastle United's all-time leading goalscorer.
The bar won two top awards at a glittering licensed trade event organised by Safe Newcastle and held in the city recently.
Not only did Shearer's win its Best Bar category, but the iconic venue, which opened just two years ago, was also judged the Best Overall in Newcastle.
The Best Bar None Awards were set up two years ago by Safe Newcastle, a community safety partnership between the police and local authority, and are highly regarded within the city's licensed trade sector.
The programme aims to recognise and reward those city venues who help to reduce alcohol related disorder and promote responsible drinking.
As part of the strict judging process, Shearer's was examined on its door, drink and drugs policies, crime prevention and emergency procedures.
The bar was also congratulated for its support working with local agencies in helping to promote the city as a tourist destination.
Chris Reed, Shearer's Manager said: "I'm thrilled that we have been recognised so publicly, not once but twice! Considering the number of top bars and nightspots in the city, it's no mean feat to win these awards.
"We have all worked hard in recent times to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all of our customers - whether that be local sports fans or visitors to the city."
Alan himself said: "I fully support the aims and principles behind the Best Bar None Awards and I'm particularly delighted that Shearer's has picked up not only the category trophy but best in Newcastle."
